Locations of interest screen (Case management)

This topic provides an overview of the Locations of interest screen and all the settings and buttons on it. However if you require step-by-step procedures on adding, importing, editing or deleting locations refer to Managing locations.

Overview

The Locations of interest screen allows you to manage the details of any locations associated with the case. It lists all the locations you created for the case and those that were created automatically by OSS-ESPA. Locations are also created automatically by OSS-ESPA for a number of reasons, for example when you import a geofence file, tower dump file or a subscriber information file.

You can add multiple locations to the same case if required. Locations are geographic points of interests that are used for investigating case data visually on the ESPA analysis center screen to determine the proximity of the locations to the sectors used during phone calls. They are also used in IQ packets and advanced analysis reports, may also be useful for drive planning, and are used in the geo-fence and reverse geo-fence live location monitoring alerts. For example, a location may be:

A crime scene.
A place of interest related to the crime or a phone user, for example the location of a phone user's home and locations a phone user is known to frequent.
A place that you want to monitor a person entering or leaving using live location monitoring.

There are two types of locations you can enter:

the first is referred to as a View location and is simply a location that is of interest that displays on the ESPA analysis center screen and the IQ packet report's map views. This requires you to enter the location's Latitude and Longitude. These can also be added by entering the Street address, Postal code then clicking Locate.
the second is referred to as an Analysis location, for example a crime scene, that compares the wireless records against the location producing a number of analyses that use the location. If you want the location included in analyses you must set the Time buffer, Event Start, Event end, Location buffer, Latitude and Longitude. You must also also select Include this location in analytics if you want to:
- include the location in the analysis results on the Mission set preview screen.
- ensure that OSS-ESPA verifies you have completed all the settings required for the location to be included in all other analyses when you click Save. The settings required are: the Time buffer, Latitude, Longitude, Event start, Event end and Location buffer.

The Hyperlinks tab and Pictures tab also allows you to add hyperlinks and images respectively that you can include in IQ packets, live location monitoring emails and advanced analysis reports. The hyperlinks can also be viewed on the ESPA Analysis center screen.

When you are ready to create IQ packets and advanced analysis reports, you can select which of these locations you want included.

For an advanced analysis report, the generated report contains street maps showing each selected location individually, for further information refer to Using target location information in advanced analysis reports.
For an IQ packet the generated report contains a street map showing each individual location. All the settings you enter on the screen are also included in the IQ packet alongside the individual street maps. The following graphic shows an example of these maps:

The IQ packet also contains street maps of each location overlaid with the cells where calls were made during the event start and end time you specify for each location. The following graphic shows an example of these maps:

The Smart Track tab allows you to quickly set up geo-fence and reverse geo-fence alerts which you can then manage on the Smart Track alerts & notifications screen.

The Target development files tab allows you to upload tower dump files and geofence files to the location which you can then manage on the Manage files screen.

Settings and buttons

Location

This lists all the locations that have been added to the case, with separate lists for the Analysis locations and View locations. Click on a location to view or edit the details. If you edit the details you must click Save otherwise any changes you make are lost if you move to another screen. To delete existing locations click , then from the dialog box, select the check-box next to the locations you want to delete then click Delete selected.

If you are working with tower dump and geofence files, then locations that have been created automatically by OSS-ESPA are also listed here.

If you have uploaded a tower dump or geofence file containing data for multiple locations OSS-ESPA creates locations to identify each separate location it identifies in the file, and names them depending on what you had selected in File location when you uploaded the file. If you selected:

Detect location in key file, then the locations are named using the latitudes and longitudes in the file.
Automatically create a generic location, then the locations are named "Location<n>".
Detect location in file, then new locations are named using the address in the uploaded file.
A named location but the file actually contained multiple locations then the new locations are named <uploaded file name>_TL<n>.

If you have uploaded a subscriber information file OSS-ESPA creates a location to identify the home address detailed in the file. It names this "<person name> residence".
