Using basic features of the data view
Once your data is displayed on the map of the ESPA analysis center, as described in Getting started with investigating case data visually, you can examine the data using various features. This topic describes some of the basic features of the tabs on the Data view of the ESPA analysis center screen. The Data view is located by default on the lower part of the screen and consists of the following tabs: CDR data, Sector data, Target locations, Timeline, Contact data, Public records, HO data, RTT data WiFi networks and Geo-loc data.
If you require an overview of the Data view or a detailed description of the settings refer to Data view.
Click Zoom for any record you are interested in, to center the location of the record on the map. The listing is centered on the map using the range currently set in Zoom level. For example, you may select to zoom to a particular call because it occurred around the same time as the crime.
To filter the listings on the tab select the column title you want to group by, then select Filters. The type of menu available from Filters depends on the column title you selected. For example, you may want to filter the data by:
-
specific dates/times. For further information refer to Using the data view's date/time filters.
-
text. Enter the text you want to use as your filter.
-
numbers.
When a column has a filter applied to it the column title is displayed in bold and italics.
If you want to clear the filter, select the column title which has the filter applied and deselect Filters.
The CDR data, Sector data and Geo-loc data tabs all have an advanced filter. Click to open the Advanced filter dialog box which allows you to filter the content of the tab using multiple filters. When an advanced filter is applied to a tab, the column title on the tab is displayed in blue font and the button is displayed with a box around it.
The tab listings can be sorted and grouped in a variety of ways. For example, by default the CDR data tab lists the data in date/time order with the earliest data listed first and the Sector data tab lists the data in usage order with the most frequently used sector listed first. The following procedure explains how to use this feature.
-
Click and drag the column title you want to use to sort your listings and release when the green arrow appears as shown in the following diagram.
The display is updated; the column title you selected appears in the Sorting order list and the listings are sorted according to the column title you selected.
-
If you want to change the alphabetic ordering of the listings, in the Sorting order list, click the arrow next to the column title you have just added. The direction of the arrow and the ordering of the listings are reversed.
-
To clear any sorting you have selected click Clear sort.
